MOVE FREIGHT IN

MOVE FREIGHT OUT

Cross docking is built for speed. Instead of placing freight into long-term storage, shipments are received, sorted, staged, and moved back out for delivery. Swift supports cross docking logistics for companies that need a flexible regional partner near Maryland, Baltimore, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and the greater Mid-Atlantic corridor.

Our role is simple: help freight come in cleanly, organize it for the next step, and deliver the final mile. Whether you are moving large truckloads, LTL freight, routed deliveries, retail shipments, business supplies, or regional distribution freight, Swift provides cross docking solutions built around timing, space, and delivery requirements.

Businesses that utilize our cross docking services include:

•  National Companies shipping to the Mid-Atlantic region
•  Regional distributors
•  Freight brokers and logistics teams
•  Businesses with truckload or LTL freight needing final-mile delivery

If you need reliable cross-docking services throughout Maryland, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, and the greater Mid-Atlantic, Swift is your ideal regional partner. We offer a convenient cross-dock site with a last-mile delivery option to keep your freight moving efficiently.

WE GO THE

EXTRA MILE

Swift stands out because our cross-docking process extends beyond just the dock. While many providers receive your freight and transfer it to another carrier for the final leg, leaving you without further updates, we take a different approach. When freight arrives at our dock, we handle shipments all the way to final-mile delivery.

Our flexible solutions cater to businesses that require same-day freight movement across the Mid-Atlantic, accommodating needs from a single pallet to a full truckload, all while maintaining complete visibility. This flexibility allows our customers to minimize delays, avoid unnecessary storage costs, recover from missed deliveries, support overflow volume, and effortlessly move freight into the region without needing to establish a new delivery network.

CROSS DOCKING,

ANSWERED

What operation managers ask before using a cross-dock service

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CROSS-DOCKING SERVICES?

Cross docking is usually used as a hub and spoke model. Where one carrier drops off freight going to a specific region or out of the way destination, and another carrier takes the freight to its final destination. This allows for a more efficient and cost-effective way to move freight because it reduces transportation time, and eliminates local warehousing costs.

WHICH INDUSTRIES USE CROSS-DOCKING?

Retail, e-commerce, healthcare, manufacturing, electrical components, field service, and freight companies commonly use cross docking services.

WHAT TYPES OF FREIGHT ARE SUITABLE FOR CROSS-DOCKING?

LTL shipments and/or FTL shipments that are either palletized for floor-loaded can benefit from cross-docking. Also, multiple shipments on the same truck going to a specific area or region.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROSS-DOCKING AND WAREHOUSING?

Warehousing stores shipments for a longer period of time and the customer is charged for the length of storage. Cross-Docking implies the freight is moved in and out of a warehouse quickly. Customers are charged a fee for handling the freight, but not for storing the freight.
